In recent times, there has been an increasing number of reports of closures and/or relocations related to porto’s historic stores. One of the most publicized cases was that of Bolhão Grocery that closed doors forever. But this is not the only one. Now, we also have news to share about the emblematic Armazém dos Linhos.
With 119 years of existence, and inserted in the Porto of Tradition, the Armazém dos Linhos store has received an eviction notice from the landlord… And now it has to leave its usual location, that is, number 15 of the iconic Rua de Passos Manuel.
According to Jornal de Notícias, quoted by other media outlets, the building where the historic store is located has been sold to a French group.
In a publication shared on the official Instagram account the managers of Armazém dos Linhos regret the outcome of the story, pointing out that “the dream of acquiring the space and staying in the area was made impossible by real estate speculation“.
Despite this, there is a promise to “reopen in a different space, seeking in this change to find a balance between the past and the future, with new projects and dreams”, they say in the same post.
However, similar situations have been reported on the same road in Porto, affecting Benedito Barros and the Butikão store.
