As in previous years, April 25th in Porto will be celebrated with a program full of free activities for all tastes and ages, on the 24th and 25th.
The official celebrations of the Carnation Revolution in Invicta are the responsibility of the municipal company Ágora, in partnership with the Commission for the Popular Commemorations of April 25.
This year, Porto residents and visitors can expect the usual parade, traditional games, fireworks and various musical moments, including a concert by the famous rapper Capicua. Shall we find out more?
April 24th (Wednesday)
The kick-off is a short tribute concert to Carlos Paredes, in the centenary year of his birth , starting at 10pm on the Avenida dos Aliados stage.
In the same place, at 10.15pm, Capicua takes the ‘lead’ in the celebrations, shortly after dancing to her latest album “Um gelado antes do fim do mundo” (An ice cream before the end of the world).
Before the usual midnight fireworks, there’s still time for a performance by the University of Porto’s Choir of Letters, at 23:40.
April 25th in Porto (Friday)
On April 25th itself, the initiatives start first thing in the morning. Starting at 10am, Praça do General Carlos Alberto will host various traditional games for all generations.
Other highlights include, for example, the tribute to the anti-fascist resisters, in Largo Soares dos Reis, next to the former PIDE headquarters, at 14:30. Afterwards, the Freedom Parade sets off down Avenida dos Aliados.
There, from 3pm, music will once again take center stage with the presentation of the Cantar Abril project.
The agenda also includes speeches and another musical moment by Retimbrar with lesser-known pieces by José Afonso and Carlos Paredes .
