If there are beaches that stand out for their “Golden quality” there are also others who stand out for less positive reasons. At the moment, there are three beaches not recommended to bathing, including one on the Greater Porto, according to the Jornal de Notícias (JN).
According to the famous publication, the three places temporarily not recommended for bathing are as follows: Praia da Lagoa (Póvoa de Varzim); Praia de Matosinhos (in Greater Porto) and Praia de Vila Praia de Âncora (municipality of Caminha, in Minho).
Why?
According to JN, the Administration of the Northern Hydrographic Region (AHR Norte ) recently carried out analyses. With regard to Praia da Lagoa, the results pointed to the presence of:
Abnormally high values of escherichia coli bacteria (2383 per 100 ml) and intestinal sterococci (117 per 100 ml),” says the same source.
As an immediate consequence, the red flag was raised at the scene. This contrasts with the results for June and the first week of July, which were considered excellent.
Other cases of closed beaches
According to JN, the beaches of Matosinhos and Vila Praia de Âncora are facing a similar situation, so bathing is also temporarily not recommended.
