As Christmas approaches, it seems that the cold has decided to make an appearance (and in force). So it takes a lot of willpower to get off the sofa and leave the blankets behind. However, if you want to take advantage of the next few days to relax, then these are some of the best movies to watch on Netflix.
Given that we’re in the middle of the festive season, naturally these choices are related to Christmas. From comedies to animated films, not forgetting some romances, these are some of our team’s suggestions. So get the popcorn ready… and lights, camera, action!
Table Of Contents
The Grinch (2000)
We start with a classic: the famous Grinch. Green and grumpy-looking, this character is the opposite of everyone who loves Christmas. In fact, you could say he’s the number one enemy of this festive season.
Originally created for television, the Grinch made the big screen in 2000, directed by Ron Howard. The cast included big names such as Jim Carrey in the lead role and Anthony Hopkins as the narrator of this unique story.
Klaus (2019)
This animated movie is sure to touch the hearts of the whole family. Directed by Sergio Pablos, “Klaus” is a Netflix original that tells of the unlikely friendship between a selfish letter carrier and a lonely toymaker.
A bond that will bring joy and enthusiasm to one of the coldest, darkest and unhappiest places in the world. After watching “Klaus”, it’s (almost) impossible not to learn a lesson about the true feelings that unite us and how this can change everything in life!
Christmas Chronicles (2018)
Producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”) has teamed up with director Clay Kaytis (Angry Birds: The Movie) to bring us “Christmas Chronicles”. Released in 2018, this movie is a Christmas comedy that tells the story of two siblings.
Katy and Teddy hide inside Santa’s sleigh and cause an accident that almost destroys Christmas. As a result, the two siblings team up with the ‘white-bearded old man’ and his elves with a common mission: to save the most magical night! One of the best movies to watch this season.
Christmas in Africa (2019)
In a movie for the whole family, with a little romance thrown in, “Christmas in Africa” tells the story of Kate, a woman who has recently separated from her husband and decided to embark on a solo journey to the African continent.
There, Kate’s path (Kristin Davis, an actress known for her role in the hit series “Sex and the City”) crosses that of the pilot (Rob Lowe). Together they discover an important mission: to rescue an orphaned baby elephant. New love in the air? Or will Kate return home?
Love Doesn’t Take a Holiday (2006)
To close with a ‘golden key’ here’s another classic: “Love Doesn’t Take a Vacation”. With Cameron Diaz (in the role of Amanda Woods) and Kate Winslet (in the role of Iris Simpkins), the cast of this movie is simply luxury and a reference in the category of romantic Christmas comedies.
For two weeks, Amanda (a trailer producer from Los Angeles) and Iris (a journalist from London) temporarily swap homes. In each of their adventures, their paths cross with a potential romantic partner.
