The gardens of WOW, a cultural district located in the historic center of Vila Nova de Gaia, will host a “pocket” edition of Bossa Market this weekend, July 18 and 19—described as the largest market dedicated to Brazilian culture in Portugal.
After seven editions in Cascais, the festival is moving to the North region for the first time. So, for two days, the WOW gardens will host live concerts, samba performances, MPB and Bossa Nova sessions, and nighttime DJ sets, as well as fashion, art, design, Portuguese-Brazilian cuisine, a kids’ area, and even the chance to watch the World Cup final .
A program structured around both day and night
The program is designed to keep visitors engaged throughout the weekend. During the day, live music serves as a backdrop for exploring the market and the culinary offerings.
As night falls, the rhythm shifts: samba takes center stage and DJ sets keep the party going into the night, according to the event organizers. The musical journey offered to the public spans genres such as Bossa Nova, MPB, and samba, in a program the organizers describe as a journey through the rhythms that have spanned several generations of Brazilian music.
The venue: historic cellars converted into a cultural hub
WOW was born out of the renovation of the old Port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and has been classified as a project of Potential National Interest (PIN). With a gross area of 55,000 square meters, the complex includes several museums, restaurants and cafés, shops, an exhibition space, and various event halls. Opened in 2020, it is dedicated to the culture, cuisine, and history of the Northern region and of Portugal.
