If you thought Christmas had gone, we have good news. At one of the gates of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, the lights haven’t gone out yet. What does that mean? Well, you have exactly until Sunday, January 11, to visit the “Enchanted Forest” at the Mezio Gate, one of the biggest attractions of the festive season in Alto Minho.
With the promise of (very) cold weather and maybe a few snowflakes, this is the ‘last minute’ plan for those who want to keep ‘breathing’ a bit of Christmas magic for longer. Located about 1h30 by car from Porto, a total of approximately 110 kilometers, the “Enchanted Forest” is synonymous with a different experience.
The 5th edition of the “Enchanted Forest” turned on its lights on November 28th and will continue until January 11th, in an initiative promoted by the Cabana Maior Parish Council and the Cabana Maior Common Council.
What to expect from the “Enchanted Forest”?

There are no medieval castles here, nor the “World’s Largest Santa Claus”, but Porta do Mezio also offers visitors a dream setting, especially suitable for those who enjoy direct contact with nature.
The 400-meter-long path is illuminated with various figures scattered throughout the forest, such as the ‘white-bearded old man’ and his faithful elves, among others.
The lights of the “Enchanted Forest” are open every day from 5pm to midnight, and admission is free for children up to the age of 8. From this age, tickets cost €3.
How to get there from Porto?

If you’re thinking of visiting the “Enchanted Forest” from Porto, the quickest and most convenient way to get there is by car.
One of the easiest ways to get there is by taking the A3 towards Valença, exiting at Arcos de Valdevez and then following the signs for Porta do Mezio/Cabana Maior.
We also recommend that you plan your visit in advance, as it’s an attraction that tends to attract a lot of visitors.
