If you often visit the Virtudes area in Porto, get ready to see this part of the city revitalized. Among the planned changes is the installation of escalators between Rua dos Armazéns and the Fonte das Virtudes. But there are more changes on the way.
According to a press release, the Porto City Council recently launched a public tender with a base value of 1.95 million euros for the construction of escalators and a new square in Virtudes, with a completion deadline of 365 days.
Renovation of the historic Fonte das Virtudes
The Virtudes area is known as one of the best places to watch the sunset inthe city. Now, with this municipal project, the goal is to breathe new life into this part of Porto.
In addition to the installation of the escalators, the project, led by GO Porto, “includes work to renovate the historic Fonte das Virtudes, which dates back to the 17th century, where a new square will be created.”
In this context, the project is expected to include “new granite paving and landscaped areas”to “highlight the fountain’s beauty.” As such, the goal is to make this space a much more pleasant area for pedestrians.
These will not be the only escalators
