The Portuguese delegation’s participation in the Olympic Games 2024 has just taken on another shine, thanks to winning his second medal. This Thursday (August 8), Iuri Leitão was runner-up in omnium track cycling.
At 26, the Portuguese is anything but unknown in the sport. After all, this is none other than the specialty world champion (title won in Glasgow, 2023).
Born in the Viana do Castelo iuri Leitão forever inscribed his name in the history of the Olympic Games by winning the silver medal with a total of 153 points.
It’s hard to describe, as it was a very intense day. I ran an almost perfect race, playing tactically. In the end, I managed to get into the fight for gold and even tried to make one last attack, but in the end the Frenchman [Benjamin Thomas] was stronger than me,” commented Iuri Leitão, Olympic runner-up, in statements broadcast by RTP2.
With Iuri Leitão’s achievement, Portugal now has two Olympic medals. Will we be celebrating any more?
