João Simão da Silva, known as Marco Paulo, died this Thursday, October 24, at the age of 79. The artist had been fighting two cancer diseases, one in his lungs and the other in his liver (in a more critical state), according to SIC Notícias.
Meanwhile, the news is generating a wave of reactions from the most diverse figures in Portuguese society, including Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa himself.
The President of the Republic received with regret the news of the death of the singer Marco Paulo, who was present in Portuguese musical life for decades, and presents his condolences to his family, friends and admirers,” reads an official note from the Presidency of the Republic.
A career full of successes
Marco Paulo, as he will be known to posterity, was born in Mourão, in the Alto Alentejo, in January 1945. Over the course of his more than 50-year career, he has achieved success after success.
His acrobatics with the microphone and his curly hair from his youth have marked his performances. In all, he has released more than 70 albums and is the only Portuguese artist with a diamond record.
However, the time has now come for Portugal to say goodbye to the voice that marked generations. However, songs such as “Nossa Senhora”, “Eu Tenho Dois Amores” and “Maravilhoso Coração”, among others, will live on forever!
