December is a month full of activities and events, as well as reasons to travel. However, it’s not all about Christmas, so for the more curious there’s another alternative: the “Night of the Witches”, taking place in Montalegre, in the district of Vila Real.
After a successful event in September, thousands more visitors are expected for this year’s second and final Friday the 13th. In this context, the local council has prepared a special program full of entertainment.
Halloween program
According to the official website of the Montalegre municipality, the activities start at 1.13pm and last until the evening. As in the previous edition, the initiative includes musical moments, performances and, of course, a pyromusical show.

How to get to Montalegre?
From Porto, the quickest way to get to the ‘capital of mysticism’ is by car. The most common routes involve the A3 and A7 highways.
On the A3, all you have to do is leave Invicta and get on the A3 in the direction of Braga/Valença. As for the A7, after about 17 km, you have to exit in the direction of the A7 (Guimarães/Fafe).
The total journey is approximately 148 km, taking about 1 hour and 52 minutes. Another option is to join an organized tour. For example, Alma At Porto is promoting a tour to Montalegre.
According to the Alma At Porto website, the trip costs €59 and includes a bus ride (departing from the Estádio do Dragão Metro station at 3.45pm) and a typical dinner. However, reservations are required and bookings are limited.
