Talking about loss and bereavement can still be taboo for many. That’s why an event has now come up with the aim of demystifying this topic: the 1st edition of the Festival of Mourning comes to Porto, on May 24 (Saturday), from 10am to 5:30pm.
Promoted by the Compassio Association (a non-profit organization), the Mourning Festival is free to enter and offers a varied program for kids and adults alike. It should also be noted that the initiative takes place in three venues:
- Marquês Square
- Paula Frassinetti School of Education
- Parish of Senhora da Conceição
Our proposal is to create a safe and welcoming space where it’s possible to look at bereavement in a broad way – not just as a response to the death of a loved one, but also to the loss of a pet, a relationship, a job, health or a life project,” explains Mariana Abranches Pinto, president of Compassio.
As already mentioned, the program is wide-ranging and includes talks, spaces and moments of artistic expression.
