In recent months, several astronomical phenomena have caught the attention of the media (and the general public) in Portugal. A aurora borealis, storm of stars and even a rare supermoon were some of the events. However, there are reports of a new event: the sighting of a meteor.
According to information from SIC Notícias, the bolide (a meteor that leaves a bright trail) crossed Portuguese skies, in the early hours of September 3, at 2:38 a.m.
According to the same source, the meteor is said to have ‘exploded’ in Beira Baixa, on the border with Spain, and the moment was recorded by the Braga and Tomar observatories.
Unlike the famous meteor of May, this one was not widely sighted from the north to the south of Portugal. Even so, the event on the morning of September 3 was recorded on video for posterity.
The images were shared afterwards by the Facebook page of the Planetarium – Science House of Braga, attracting the attention of social media users and beyond.
