As temperatures rise, many Porto residents are already looking for the best river beaches to cool off. But if you’re looking for a ‘warm water’ alternative, but without having to buy a ticket for a plane trip, here’s a tip: visit Praia da Noeirinha, in Aveiro.
Located less than an hour’s drive from Porto, this artificial beach (‘urban beach’) with warm water is the perfect excuse for a getaway. With an average temperature of around 25º, this space was born in an old salt pan that was abandoned for 30 years. Shall we get to know it better?

A brief look at Noeirinha Beach
Nowadays, this is a leisure area, with a large bathing area and other experiences on offer, including a salt spa and more. It’s also a place with more than two centuries of history. However, what we really want to do is dive in without freezing.
Around here, the water is warmer, saltier and renewed daily. With a maximum depth of 1.50 meters and no waves, this is also an option for those who like to swim in calm waters.

What can you find here?
At Praia da Noeirinha you’ll find some tables for a small picnic. However, if you don’t like walking around with a packed lunch, then you can always opt to eat at the terrace bar, where there are snacks and drinks.
As already mentioned, one of the great attractions of this leisure area is the 100% natural Saline Spa (ticket cost €5):
Thanks to its high degree of salinity, it is ideal for skin well-being, as this salt contains healing and antiseptic powers due to the sodium that eliminates toxins in the body and helps relieve symptoms of atritis,” reads the officialwebsite.

You can also take a guided tour of the salt pans, where you can learn more about the production of Aveiro Traditional Sea Salt, its history and curiosities. An art formerly known as “White Gold”. The experience costs €8 and also includes birdwatching.
