Christmas is coming, and Perlim already has its dates set. The Christmas theme park in Santa Maria da Feira, about half an hour from Porto, returns to Quinta do Castelo on November 28 and runs through December 30.
Last year’s edition drew 99,865 visitors, about 30% of whom came from Spain, despite rain on half the days. A “historic” number, in the words of the organizers, as quoted by the Santa Maria da Feira City Council.
A brief look at Perlim

Created in 2008, when it was still called “Terra dos Sonhos,” Perlim reaches its 18th edition this year. Feira Viva, the organizer, describes it as the largest Christmas theme park on the Iberian Peninsula. For a month, Quinta do Castelo, next to Feira Castle, fills with characters such as the Fairy Piri and the twin elves Perlim and Pimpim.
What can we expect from this year’s edition?
Among the attractions already confirmed are:
Ice rink, next to the Piscinas Recreation Park;
Parada dos Sonhos, one of Perlim’s most memorable moments, for which the organizers are currently recruiting extras, according to the Diário de Aveiro;
Circo Evolution: Heritage, featuring aerial acrobats, tightrope walkers, and the “Pendulum of Death” (separate ticket, between €13 and €33, according to the official website);
Street food area, one of the event’s food zones.
And what about the Christmas Market?

It’s back, too. The Christmas Market is set up in Rossio, in the city’s historic center, with free admission, craft stalls, food, and hot drinks.
