Did you know that the city of Maia was recently named the happiest in Portugal, according to the 2026 Happy Index? And now you’ll have the opportunity to spread that joy to many dogs and cats looking for a new family at PET Fest on Saturday, May 23.
Organized by the Maia City Council, the event will take place at Maia Central Park from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., serving as a true day of awareness, fun, and the promotion of responsible adoption.
The arrival of a new companion?
If you feel like there’s a furry friend missing at home, this could very well be the day your family grows. After all, the main highlight of PET FEST is the adoption area run by CROACM—Maia’s Official Animal Shelter.
Here, you’ll find several dogs and cats in need of a new home. And the best part? All the furry friends are provided with guaranteed healthcare:
- Vaccinated
- Dewormed
- Spayed or neutered
- Electronically identified (with a microchip)
How to adopt a dog?
First and foremost, it’s important that you are fully aware of the care and responsibilities involved in welcoming a new family member. If this is your situation, you should know that the adoption process is simple but rigorous . In other words, you’ll need to present your ID and proof of address on-site .
Activities for the whole family
As part of Maia’s municipal campaign “Friends Forever,” PET Fest goes far beyond adoption. The program includes activities for four-legged companions, but also for the whole family. Therefore, various activities and themed areas are planned :
- Olfactory Space
- Agility Area
- Spa Animal
- Accessories and face painting workshop
- Lounge area
- Special photo session dedicated to animals and families
Throughout the day, PET FEST will also host various awareness activities, where you can learn useful tips on the well-being and daily care of your new four-legged best friend.
