The 12th edition of the Porto Book Fair, the city’s biggest literary event, returns to the emblematic Crystal Palace Gardens between August 22 and September 7. For 17 days, there are several free initiatives waiting for you.
This year, the organization has decided to pay homage to the well-known composer and author Sérgio Godinho. However, this is not the first time that a ‘song writer’ has been highlighted, as in 2018 it was José Mário Branco‘s turn.

A tribute to one of the voices of freedom
Sérgio Godinho needs no introduction on the Portuguese cultural scene. He was born in Porto in 1945 and is therefore one of the most illustrious people from Porto today.
Considered one of the great voices of freedom, particularly due to the song of the same name, composed in 1974, he has several hits in his career, such as “O Primeiro Dia” and “É Terça-feira”, among many others.
With more than 20 albums, Sérgio Godinho has received several distinctions and awards. However, his writing is far from restricted to the world of songs, as he has published several novels and chronicles.
During the Porto Book Fair, the exhibition “O Meu Sérgio”, a comic book publishing project, will be inaugurated. The composer, singer, author and poet will also be honored in the following ways:
- Award of the City Medal
- Awarding of a linden tree in the Crystal Palace Gardens
