The Porto Book Fair is the city’s biggest literary event. On its way to its 12th edition, the initiative returns to the Palácio de Cristal Gardens between August 22 and September 7. This year’s highlight is the tribute to Sérgio Godinho.
Famous for his musical career, this is not the first time that a ‘writer of songs’ has been honored at the Porto Book Fair. In 2018, José Mário Branco was also the central figure at the literary event.
From music to literature
Sérgio Godinho was born in Porto in 1945, where he lived until he was 20. Today, he is one of the best-known names on the Portuguese music scene, with emblematic songs such as “Com um Brilhozinhos nos Olhos”, “O Primeiro Dia” and “É Terça-feira”, among others.
With more than 20 albums, he has received several awards, such as the José Afonso Prize. However, his writing is not restricted to the world of songs, as he has published some novels and chronicles, as well as the poetic work “O pequeno livro dos medos”.
Book Fair with shows and concerts
Although the program for the 12th edition of the Porto Book Fair is not yet known, there are already some certainties:
- 100 free shows;
- Daily concerts in the Acoustic Shell during the 17 days of the event;
- Confirmed appearances by João Luís Barreto Guimarães, Lídia Jorge and Djamilia Pereira de Almeida;
- Sérgio Godinho’s show to close the Book Fair.
