Did you know that there is only one Portuguese art museum on the list of the 100 most visited in 2025? Once again, the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto has distinguished itself internationally by ranking 84th, with over 900,000 visitors recorded last year, in the annual survey by the renowned “The Art Newspaper.”
Museums in ‘good health’

According to “The Art Newspaper,” the data collected shows that major museums remain in “good health,” continuing to attract millions of visitors worldwide.
In total, it is estimated that the top 100 museums on the list recorded more than 200 million visits in 2025 , a figure that indicates a positive growth trend since the Covid-19 pandemic; yet, it is still slightly lower than the 230 million recorded in 2019.

According to data collected by “The Art Newspaper,” these are the ten museums leading the global ranking:
- Musée du Louvre (Paris, France) – over 9 million visitors
- Vatican Museums (Vatican) – over 6.9 million visitors
- National Museum of Korea (Seoul, South Korea) – approximately 6.5 million visitors
