Summer is synonymous with music festivals, and one of the oldest on the Iberian Peninsula is about to return to Alto Minho: CA Vilar de Mouros will once again fill the air with music from August 18 to 22, in the parish of the same name, in the municipality of Caminha, along the Coura River.
As the countdown to the festival’s opening continues, the organizers of the northern festival recently announced the final names on the lineup, spread across five days packed with concerts featuring established international artists and emerging talents.

Six decades of history and a historic gathering in 1968
It all began in 1965, when Dr. António Augusto Barge, a native of Vilar de Mouros, organized the first festival to promote the folk music of Alto Minho and Galicia, and to put his village on the map.
In 1968, the event took on an unexpected dimension: Barge managed to bring together on the same stage the National Republican Guard Band and protest singers such as Zeca Afonso and Adriano Correia de Oliveira—a symbolic moment of coexistence between the regime and the opposition, even in the midst of the dictatorship, which did not go unnoticed by the PIDE.

August 21 marks Ben Harper ’s return to the festival, 25 years after his first performance in Vilar de Mouros.
As for the closing night on August 18, fans of Urban Dance Squad have reason to celebrate: nearly two decades after the band’s breakup, Rudeboy, one of the founding members, takes the stage alongside DJ DNA—also a founder of the Dutch project—with a show that revisits tracks from the band’s five albums.
On the local scene, highlights include TRAVO, a quartet from Braga and Porto that blends psychedelia and garage rock, and MONSTRO, who will be presenting their debut album, “Unborn Love.”
