A glass of wine, a cheese and charcuterie board, and the Douro right in front of you. That’s what an afternoon at Vinology Wine Bar in Ribeira is like—a space surrounded by historic buildings from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, overlooking the river, the D. Luís I Bridge, and the wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The concept focuses on Portuguese wine, without any fuss. The wine list covers the country’s various wine regions and leaves plenty of room for leisurely conversation at the table.
Four tastings to take you on a journey through the regions

Those looking to step outside the usual choices have four tasting experiences to choose from, each centered on a specific style or region:
- Vinho Verde Discovery (€35), dedicated to Vinho Verde wines.
- Douro Valley Trip (€40), featuring different wines from the Douro.
- Port Wine!… Wine Not? (€55), centered on Port wine.
- Wine & Cheese Lovers (€60), which pairs three wines with three Portuguese cheeses.
Cheeses, sausages, and appetizers to share
The cuisine centers on cheeses and cured meats, featuring both domestic and international products. On the Portuguese side, there’s Serra Amanteigado, São Jorge, and Azeitão. From abroad, there’s Comté, Manchego, and Gorgonzola. Among the charcuterie, the Spanish-style aged beef jerky (Cecina de Vaca Maturada) joins Iberian ham and various varieties of Portuguese salpicão.
The cheese and charcuterie boards start at €25 and come with Alentejo bread, rye toast, olives, and jams. The menu also features light meals:
- Pintxos, for €5.50
- RIB croquettes with black garlic mayonnaise, for €7
- Cod fritters with lemon aioli, for €15
- Veal pica-pau, for €20
- Sirloin steak, for €23
On weekends, there are DJ sets to keep the night going.
