We’re approaching the most magical time of the year, which is why themed experiences are multiplying. For example, CP – Comboios de Portugal is promoting a special Christmas edition on board the Vouga Historic Train, known simply as Vouguinha.
Between November 23 and January 4, 2025, seven trips are planned, on Saturdays. The destination? To visit the World’s Biggest and Smallest Santa Claus up close, as well as the Christmas illuminations in the city of Águeda, in the Aveiro district. But we’ll tell you all the details in a moment.
How do I travel on the Vouga Historic Train?
Although it’s not the first time that the Vouguinha has run during the festive season, the truth is that this year there are new features. More specifically, the train’s carriages will be decorated and illuminated with Christmas motifs to give the journey an even more special touch.
According to the official CP – Comboios de Portugal website, the departure point is Aveiro station (at 13h35) and the return journey is scheduled for 19h20. Along the way, the program includes entertainment, regional products and a guided tour of the Macinhata do Vouga Museum.
However, the highlight of the trip is the stop in Águeda, where you can visit the World’s Largest and Smallest Santa Claus; the former is more than 20 meters tall and illuminated with more than 250,000 LEDs, while the latter is a nano-structure visible only through a microscope.
