After the lighting of the “biggest Christmas tree in the country”, we’re already (almost) counting down to the festive season. In this sense, events and attractions typical of the most magical time of the year are multiplying, such as “WOW is Christmas”.
Vila Nova de Gaia‘s cultural quarter, WOW (World of Wine), officially embraces the magic of Christmas from November 23rd. The program is special and includes activities for kids and adults, in an animation that lasts until January 6.
What can you expect?
With a privileged view of the Douro River, WOW will welcome Christmas with the lighting of the 13-meter tree, scheduled for November 23 at 18:30.
To celebrate this very special moment, the event’s organizers are putting on children’s and youth dance and choir shows. Also, get ready to sample the traditional hot chocolate and mulled wine.
However, the instagrammable Christmas tree isn’t the only attraction you’ll find there. As well as the classic carousel, there are other activities waiting for you.
Markets and beyond
In a press release, the organization also informs that from mid-December, on weekends and during the school vacations, there will be a Gastronomic Market in the central square.
The Lemon Plaza, WOW’s interior square, will host various performances by dance schools and children’s choirs at weekends. Also noteworthy is the Christmas Market, located in the Street Market, which will feature several national brands and local producers.
Santa’s House and some new features
As in other places, one of the most eagerly awaited moments is the arrival of the ‘white-bearded old man’. The youngest ones can meet him at Santa’s House in Lodge 6, near the Pink Palace, from December 7th.
There are also two new features this year compared to previous editions:
- The arrival of Santa Claus
- And the New Year’s Concert, on January 4th.
