Porto is set to gain another Health Center. Construction on the new facility in Carvalhido began on September 7, carried out by GO Porto, and represents an investment of 3.4 million euros.
The two-story building, with approximately 1,600 square meters of floor space, will bring together under one roof the Carvalhido Family Health Unit, the Prelada Family Health Unit, and the Shared Care Resources Unit.
The project includes specific areas for women’s health, children’s health, and oral health, a breastfeeding support space, and areas dedicated to providing direct care to patients—a concrete step toward strengthening healthcare capacity in the northern part of the city.
Sustainability at the heart of the project

The new facility was designed with energy efficiency in mind: solar panels for water heating, bioclimatic architecture to optimize thermal comfort, ventilation, and the use of natural light. Outside, the gardens will feature stormwater retention systems to reduce runoff into public sewer systems.
This project is part of Porto’s municipal plan to modernize the primary healthcare network, which also includes the new Cerco and Garcia de Orta Health Centers, both of which are already under construction.
