For more than two decades, Maus Hábitos has occupied the fourth floor of a building on Rua de Passos Manuel, across from the Coliseu do Porto. Now, it may have to leave. The owner, Daniel Pires, told *Observador* that the lease runs through December 2027 and that, after that, he doesn’t know what will happen. But he already has a Plan B: he bought the top floor of the STOP Shopping Center.
Why Maus Hábitos Might Have to Move
Daniel Pires hopes that the fate of the Passos Manuel space will be decided by the end of the year and assures that, if they have to leave, the situation isn’t as precarious as it might seem. Today, Maus Hábitos combines a restaurant, bar, concert hall, gallery, and nightclub, and employs 47 people.
According to Daniel Pires, the landlord wants to raise the rent. The venue applied for the municipal “Porto de Tradição” program, which, according to the owner, would guarantee him a new lease and prevent the rent from increasing. The committee evaluating the applications issued a favorable opinion, but the landlord contested the decision, and the case is now being reevaluated by the Porto City Council, as reported by Observador.
Plan B: the top floor of STOP
The space he purchased is on the fourth and top floor of STOP, on Rua do Heroísmo, where a nightclub used to operate. It measures 750 square meters and includes a balcony. The team plans to open there in September 2027, either under the same name or as “Maus Hábitos 2.”
STOP is known for its rehearsal rooms and studios where musicians work, and in 2025, the Porto City Council designated the building as being of municipal interest, according to Observador.
