This Friday is April 25, a national holiday that marks the struggle for freedom. In Porto, there is a special program full of activities with concerts and parades. But we want to take this opportunity to evoke some of the songs of April.
Before the Carnation Revolution, life was very different, as we’ll remind you in this article, where you can find some interesting facts. Despite this, the truth is that the people in general were far from imagining what was about to happen.
In 1974, the military and others involved were preparing a moment to put an end to the dictatorship and oppression in Portugal. They were waiting for the signal, which would come through music and radio. “E Depois do Adeus”, by Paulo Carvalho, was the long-awaited signal that sounded and started the revolution.

But it wasn’t just this song that became a symbol of April. Many others are associated with this very special revolution, which took place with carnations instead of guns, and convey a sense of freedom that is loved and appreciated by the Portuguese people.
We’ve made a selection of some April songs so that we can celebrate this day together, which is so special to us.
