They say that “he who sings sings his evils away”. Whether it’s true or not, the truth is that stepping out of the shower and letting your voice out can be a very fun activity, or an embarrassing one, depending, of course, on your personality. However, at Bokkusu Karaoke Box there’s no need to be embarrassed.
Open since October, this is the first karaoke box located in the heart of Porto, on Rua do Bolhão. Inspired by a typical concept in Japan, in this new spot you can sing out of tune until your voice hurts. There are several private rooms waiting for you.
How did the idea come about?
Before we explain how it works and what you can find at Bokkusu Karaoke Box, redundancies aside, it’s worth starting at the beginning. In other words, how it all came about.
In practice, four friends from different areas – Joana Duarte (Communication), Pedro Pinto de Sá (Bioengineering and Economics), Rodolfo Silva (Informatics and Computing) and Vítor Marques (Multimedia) – let themselves be carried away by the inspiring effects of a trip.
The idea was an old one, but the decision to go ahead came when it was shared on a vacation for four. We decided on the spot to book another trip to try out this karaoke concept and see if it really made sense in Porto,” the people behind the project explain to Porto Secreto.
Filling a gap in Porto
As a result of their travels and experiences, the group of friends decided to fill a gap in the city of Porto by offering karaoke boxes to locals and visitors.
After deciding to go ahead, they set up Bokkusu Karaoke Box in a 50s building. As a result, the decor benefits from the charm of the period, with details inspired by Porto’s theaters and modern, bright elements.
What can you expect from Bokkusu Karaoke Box?
Whether it’s for a get-together with friends, birthday parties and/or bachelor/bachelorette parties , team building events or more, the aim here is for everyone to enjoy themselves to the full, without feeling any kind of embarrassment.
To this end, there are seven themed rooms, ranging from Japanese-inspired to jazz, not forgetting the festive 80s. In addition, there are around 100,000 songs, from classics to current hits, available in over 40 languages.
