Table Of Contents
“Speaking the Porto Way”
Authored by João Carlos Brito, a teacher and writer, the book “Falar à Moda do Porto” was launched in September 2023, with the seal of the Ideias de Ler publishing house. Born and raised in Porto, in this book the author brings together several pearls of the genuine language of Invicta.
In all, around a thousand words and expressions are organized in a book that presents itself as a kind of “medical record” dedicated to the world of Tripeiro. There are piropos, everyday sayings, “badalhoquices”, “eats and drinks” and much more.
The book is on sale in the main supermarkets (and beyond). It should also be noted that this is not the first work of its kind by João Carlos Brito. Another well-known title is “Dicionário de Calão do Porto”, among others.
“Porto: The Stories That Were Missing”
Germano Silva needs no introduction. Famous for his work as a historian and journalist, the famous author has also written several books about Porto. In fact, there are so many (and so interesting) literary titles that they could merit an article dedicated solely to Germano Silva.
Therefore, “Porto: The Stories That Were Missing” is one of many works centered on Invicta. Launched in 2021, with the Porto Editora seal of quality, in this book the author brings together “small stories from the great History of Porto”, returning to the publication in book form of his journalistic chronicles.
“Porto – Cellars, Taverns & Pasture Houses”
The aim of this article is not only to focus on books about expressions and stories, but also to diversify the options. In this context, “Porto – Adegas, Tabernas & Casas de Pasto” is a good suggestion for those who appreciate the art of eating well.
Authored by Helder Pacheco, a professor and columnist, the book, released in 2016 by Edições Afrontamento, is dedicated to Porto’s taverns, but it is much more than a gastronomic itinerary. In other words, it’s best to read it to believe it.
“Legends of Porto – Volume II”
Joel Cleto is another name that is well known and cherished by the Porto public. Aged 59, he is a historian, archaeologist and communicator, a sort of “José Hermano Saraiva” of Porto.
With a career that has been recognized at various levels, his television show “Caminhos da História” (Paths of History ), broadcast by Porto Canal, stands out. However, he is also the author of a number of books, such as “Lendas do Porto – Volume II”.
After the success of the first volume, in this second part, released in 2012, Joel Cleto reveals several traditional stories from the region. A must-read for anyone who loves studying the past.
“An Adventure in the City of Porto”
The literary saga “Uma Aventura”, by authors Ana Maria Magalhães and Isabel Alçada, has marked generations of Portuguese.
With a focus on children, this suggestion is precisely for the kids at home. After all, it’s never too early to learn (and read) about the city of Porto.
