High fuel prices have been taking a toll on Portuguese households’ budgets, with no signs that the sector will ease up anytime soon. As a result, low-cost gas stations are increasingly becoming a reality for many drivers, so it’s important to always be aware of their locations and keep an eye out for other alternatives. From now on, anyone filling up in the eastern part of Porto has a new low-cost fuel option.
Plenergy has opened its first station in the city, on Avenida da Cidade de León, near the Nó das Areias interchange on the A43 and in the area surrounding Parque Oriental. The station has two fuel islands and operates on a hybrid model: self-service is available 24 hours a day, and during the day there is a staff on-site to assist customers.
What’s changing for drivers

In a statement sent to Porto Secreto, the operator says that prices are about 10% below the regional average. With energy costs weighing heavily on household budgets, this is the brand’s central selling point. The fuels come from the leading Iberian oil companies, according to the firm.
Plenergy focuses on locations near residential areas and high-traffic zones. The company argues that this reduces the need to travel to more distant areas just to find a better price.
Tiago Preguiça, Plenergy’s Country Manager in Portugal, describes the opening as “a decisive moment” for consolidating the company’s operations in the country and speaks of an alternative designed for families, offering quality and daily savings.
A Growing Network
Plenergy currently has 23 stations in operation in Portugal and aims to reach 30 by the end of 2026. Openings are planned in Palmela, Moita, Coimbra, Vale de Cambra, and Almada.
On the Iberian Peninsula, the group operates about 420 stations and aims to exceed 500 by the end of 2027. The company opened its first station in 2015 and, in addition to fuel, offers electric charging stations at its locations.
