The light installations that have already become a winter classic are returning to Avintes. It is at the Santo Inácio Zoo, in Vila Nova de Gaia, that the immersive exhibition “Luzes Selvagens” comes to life once again for its 5th edition. A huge hit with the public since 2022, the event now offers big surprises for visitors. This year, the nighttime tour takes on a new life with never-before-seen themed areas that celebrate not only the holiday season but also the traditions of “Día de los Muertos.”
What to expect from “Luzes Selvagens”?
Considered “the largest and greenest zoo in the North,” the zoo is preparing to host a new edition focused exclusively on the end-of-year season. On an immersive nighttime tour that combines light and color, visitors are invited to dive into the mysterious world of “Día de los Muertos”—which draws on Mexican traditions —before the scene shifts and the magic of the holiday season takes over.
As in previous years, along the route—which features hundreds of illuminated animal and plant figures— iconic areas such as the House of Nocturnal Animals and the Tropical World will remain open . In addition, the “Wild Lights” route includes several interactive recreational areas and rest stops, such as the Lake Bar, the Lawn Bar, and the Zoo Shop.
Free admission during the day
Anyone who purchases a daytime admission ticket to the Santo Inácio Zoo has free and direct access to the immersive “Luzes Selvagens” exhibition on the days the event takes place. But this isn’t the only option available; those who wish to attend only the nighttime show can purchase a ticket exclusively for the event.
