The festive season isn’t all trees, lights and ice rinks. In fact, in Porto , since 1941, this season has been synonymous with an uninterrupted tradition: the Circo Natal.
This year, the event will once again take to the stage of the emblematic Coliseu Porto Ageas, between December 13 and January 5, 2025, in a show for kids and adults alike.
For the 2024 edition, the Coliseu challenged the renowned Afonso Cruz, winner of the European Union Prize for Literature, to create an original story. The show also features staging by Ana Luena, lighting design by Cárin Geada and music by Carlos Tê and Pedro Vidal.
Christmas Circus 2024: an ode to circus art
Afonso Cruz tells us an ode to the Circus and all the arts that make it such a beautiful, demanding and surprising spectacle, which makes our eyes widen from early childhood and awakens in adults the capacity to dream,” reads the press release.
In this true tribute to the Circus and its artists, the show promises to delight the whole family with:
- Balancing acts
- Juggling
- Daring flights on a trapeze
- Aerial ribbons
- Roller-skating
- Hula-hoops
- Acrobatics in the heights
- And, of course, the inseparable joy of clowns
A show with an international cast
Combining the classics of circus tradition with contemporary irreverence, the result is a unique show that brings even more magic to the Christmas season.
Also noteworthy is the international nature of Circo de Natal, featuring a cast from different latitudes:
- Jamie and Beata (Scotland and Poland)
- Datinelli Brothers (Portugal)
- Mateo Sito (Argentina)
