They say that Christmas is arriving earlier and earlier, and it seems that in Rua de Santa Catarina this is not only true, but is also taking on gigantic proportions. More specifically, the century-old Marcolino (a luxury watch and jewelry store in Porto) is preparing an unprecedented Christmas spectacle.
But what can Porto residents and visitors expect from this celebration? This Saturday, November 8, between 5pm and 7pm, the historic façade of Marcolino will be transformed into a real lightshow, combining light, music and live performance. In all, the project will use more than 140,000 intelligent lights.
“A gift to the city”
In fact, the numbers are staggering. Firstly, it took eight months of preparation for this truly artistic production. Then, there are no less than 13 kilometers of luminous wires, the equivalent of almost two complete laps around the perimeter of Porto.
We want Porto to shine like never before. This show is our gift to the city – a tribute to the light, time and sharing that have defined Marcolino’s spirit for almost a century,” says Miguel Neves, COO of the brand, in a press release sent to Porto Secreto.
Celebrating one hundred years of life
This is the most ambitious Christmas edition ever and it has a very special reason: the start of Marcolino’s centenary celebrations. Founded in 1926, it started out as a small family business that has grown to the point where it is now a national benchmark in the watch and jewelry sector.
