After a weekend that tasted like ‘summer’, it looks like the weather conditions are going to change. Against this backdrop, this Monday, November 4, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) issued a warning to the population.
According to ANECP, which cites the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA):
A gradual change in weather conditions is expected, with the occurrence of precipitation, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.”
Possibility of various phenomena
Civil Protection says that the bad weather scenario is likely to extend to most of Portugal. Floods in urban areas, landslides and water tables are some of the phenomena that could occur.
ANEPC also warns of the risk of objects being swept away by strong winds and the possible contamination of drinking water sources by waste from rural fires.
Civil Protection recommendations
Faced with this scenario, ANEPC suggests some preventive actions to reduce the impact of possible incidents:
- Avoid crossing flooded areas
- Ensure that mobile structures are secured
- Adopt a defensive driving stance
- Keep rainwater drainage systems clear and remove waste and other objects
- Monitor weather forecasts and follow the guidelines of the ANEPC and the competent authorities
