The wave of closures continues to ‘invade’ the heart of Porto. This year, we’ve already reported on a few cases in Porto Secreto, such as FNAC in Rua de Santa Catarina, which officially closed its doors last Monday, September 30. Meanwhile, there are reports of another potential ‘goodbye’ for Livraria Latina.
Number 2 Rua de Santa Catarina, on the corner with Praça da Batalha, was opened in the early 1940s by Henrique Perdigão.
Since then, it has earned its place in the sun as a reference in the bookselling sector in the city of Porto. However, the newspaper “O Cidadão” recently reported that it was about to close.
According to the same source, the future of the space came into question when it was recently announced that it was to close, although it is not yet known when. According to the same source, not even the employees themselves know anything more than the impending layoffs.
Livraria Latina: from Leya to an international group
Livraria Latina was owned by the same family for several years. However, at one point it was the target of an eviction suit and was later saved by Leya Publishing.
In 2022, Leya S. A. changed ownership and became part of the Infinitas Learning group based in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
