A new coliseum within the coliseum, this is the newly inaugurated immersive room at Coliseu Porto Ageas, one of the most emblematic performance venues in the country. Focusing on small and medium-sized events, Coliseu Box now arrives with the aim of breathing new life into a historic building, maintaining its identity but with an eye on the future.
According to a statement sent to Porto Secreto, work began in the summer and it has a capacity for events of up to 400 seated or 750 standing places, aiming to enrich the cultural offering of the Porto Metropolitan Area. Here, the official kick-off is given with the Alice Phoebe Lou concert, scheduled for February 26, in partnership with SON Estrella Galicia.
What is Coliseu Box like?
Coliseu Box was born out of a desire. It is simultaneously a safe, immersive, and premium venue, intimate, with classic décor or projection screens, dust-free and contemporary, with greater artistic diversity to welcome other audiences,” said Miguel Guedes, President of Coliseu Porto Ageas, at a press conference, quoted in the press release.
In this context, the new immersive room is equipped to the highest technical and sound standards and can host shows from a wide variety of artistic disciplines.
What do the numbers say?
With the ability to allow artists to perform more intimate shows, due to its acoustic shield, there are some interesting figures related to Coliseu Box, namely:
- Eight motors were installed in the dome of the Coliseu, 30 meters above the audience
- 12-meter-high curtain
- A 25-meter-long projection screen
The result is an immersive setting that allows the audience to be transported to the stage in a simple and natural way.

The Coliseu Box program, which is expected to be eclectic, will feature a partnership with SON Estrella Galicia, the musical project of the famous Estrella Galicia beer.
The work was co-financed by the NORTE 2030 Regional Program. To bring this project to fruition, designed by architect Nuno Valentim, priority was given to preserving the original layout of the historic building, classified as a Monument of Public Interest. As such, the vaulted ceiling of the room, a fundamental feature of the Coliseu Porto Ageas’s aesthetics, is visible .
With this new feature, the Coliseu Porto Ageas reinforces its role on the national cultural map, offering a more chameleon-like facet capable of hosting everything from niche concertsto prestigious corporate events.
