It seems that the ‘fashion’ for panoramic swings is here to stay. Near Porto, in the Melres and Medas Parish Union, in the municipality of Gondomar, a tourist attraction was recently inaugurated in the middle of nature: the ‘Cu Grande’ Swing.
From the outset, the peculiar name draws the attention of the most curious, due to a local geological formation known for its rounded or concave shape. In this scenario, the ancients used the unusual term to describe the place, hence the name now given to it.
The ‘Cu Grande’ swing: enjoying the views
The installation of this equipment is the result of an initiative by the Branzelo Ativo Association (APA) and the Melres and Medas Parish Council, and stands out for its views over Branzelo and the River Douro.
It should also be noted that the chosen location is relatively well known, as several editions of the Santa Iria Trail have taken place there. So this could be the pretext for a good Instagram photo or an afternoon outdoors.
In any case, this isn’t the first structure of its kind. After all, since 2016, from the north to the south of Portugal, several places have become a reference due to the installation of panoramic swings. And there’s even a website for those who want to tour them from side to side!
