They were designed by the landscape architect Émile David in the 1860s, but some of their main features are still preserved today. Shall we find out more?
The different gardens of the Crystal Palace
There are seven different gardens that make up the 8 hectares of green space, overlooking the Douro river, in the heart of the Invicta city.
The Emile David Garden is the first garden we see as soon as we pass through the Garden Gates. This is a large space with statues and fountains. It is the garden that pays homage to the architect responsible for the project.
As well as this, you can also visit the Aromatic Plants Garden or the Medicinal Plants Garden, which have unique and special fragrances.
The Avenida das Tílias is equally imposing. It passes the Almeida Garrett Library, the Acoustic Shell and the Chapel of Charles Albert of Sardinia.
Through the Palace we come to the Garden of Feelings, where you’ll find the statue “Dor” by Teixeira Lopes.
These gardens also include the Garden of the Twin Cities and the Garden of the Rose Garden.
They are all beautiful and wonderful and a stroll through them is good for the soul. While you’re not visiting, here are some photos of these truly enchanting gardens.
