If you’re in Porto (or the surrounding area), you already know exactly what the honking horns and chants heard from miles away mean: FC Porto was crowned National Champion of the 2025/2026 Liga Portugal Betclic this Saturday night , May 2, at Estádio do Dragão.
Four years later, the Blue and Whites celebrate winning yet another national championship— the 31st in their history. With two matchdays remaining in the official competition schedule, FC Porto defeated Alverca 1-0, with a goal by Polish player Jan Bednarek in the 40th minute.
They didn’t even need to win…
To celebrate winning the title, the Dragons didn’t even need to win. In fact, all things considered, if SL Benfica drew or won in Famalicão, FC Porto only had to match that result. But with the Lisbon team’s 2-2 draw, the path was clear for the blue-and-white celebration.
FC Porto thus secures not only the 2025/2026 Liga Portugal Betclic title but also a spot in the Champions League. However, the season doesn’t wrap up until May 17, with the Dragons playing at home the day before against Santa Clara.
A party, yes? But not at Aliados
As a rule, any FC Porto celebration ends on Avenida dos Aliados. However, this Saturday, May 2, coincides with the Monumental Serenade, which marks the start of the Queima das Fitas, so this area of the city is reserved specifically for the university festivities.
As such, celebrations by the Dragons’ fans are expected to be concentrated in the vicinity of Estádio do Dragão. According to the newspaper A Bola, citing the Porto City Council, there will be “traffic restrictions between 7:30 p.m. and midnight on the same day.”
According to the same sources, the aforementioned plan involves the complete closure of several major roads, namely : Alameda das Antas (in both directions); Rua dos Luzares; Rua Ilse Losa; Rotunda do Dragão; Túnel das Antas II; Rua Professor Manuel Baganha; and Rua João Marques Pinto.
