Porto has been ‘invaded’ by a series of projects that promise to change the face of the city, one of which is the Metrobus. After a number of delays and the works having been scheduled for completion in August 2024, the first tests have finally been carried out.
According to information quoted by ‘Viva Porto’, the tests took place on the night of June 5 and lasted until the early hours of June 6. Meanwhile, Metro do Porto itself shared a video about this moment on its official social networks.
(…) With the first vehicle traveling the entire route of the Boavista – Império link, along Avenida da Boavista and Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa. The operations were successfully tested, with no anomalies to report,” reads a post on Instagram.
A brief look at the Porto Metrobus
The Porto Metrobus project, funded under the PRR (Recovery and Resilience Plan), aims to connect Casa da Música to Praça do Império (and, a posteriori, to Rotunda da Anémona) in just 12 and 17 minutes.
It is a solution that relies on hydrogen buses, with no polluting emissions. The project totals around 76 million euros, with the vehicles and energy production system costing 29.5 million euros.
After successive delays to the project, it seems that Metrobus is now finally taking the first steps towards becoming operational, as the tests have been carried out without any anomalies. Around here, we continue to follow developments closely!
