For those who enjoy swimming but prefer not to set foot on the beach, there’s something new: the Granja Pool is located right on the beachfront at Granja Beach. The complex consists of two pools (one semi-covered and one outdoor), both of which are filled with seawater. The semi-covered pool was built in 2000; it features an eight-lane pool measuring 25 meters long by 16.6 meters wide and maintains the water at 28°C year-round. Finally, it also features a semi-removable roof that opens on the hottest days.
A reopening for the community
The renovation of the pool aimed to restore this iconic facility to the public with improved safety, comfort, and quality.
The pool’s inauguration stood out for its community-oriented nature: over a hundred young people and children took part in the first activities. These activities included water aerobics classes and numerous water games led by swimming instructors. Children supported by the Ukrspilka Association of Vila Nova de Gaia, SOS Children’s Villages, and the Social Inclusion Centers of Canelas, Grijó, and Avintes were in attendance.
A destination, not just a pool
The Granja Pool complex also includes its own playground, bar, and terrace. It’s the perfect destination for anyone who wants to get out of Porto for a few hours without going far and take a dip in water that smells like the ocean.
