Porto is increasingly a ‘fashionable’ city, attracting countless visitors and tourists, as well as recognition across borders. In this context, the tourist tax is currently 2 euros per night, but this could rise to 3 euros next year.
According to SIC Notícias, the likely increase has been approved by Porto City Council. However, to come into force, it still needs to be approved by the Municipal Assembly. At the same time, it should be noted that this is not a consensus measure.
According to the same source, the possible increase in the tourist tax in Porto has provoked some criticism from the hotel sector. Despite this scenario, there is also talk of creating a new tourist tax.
Tourist tax brings in 20 million
SIC Notícias also reports that the tourist tax in Porto will have earned the municipality 20 million euros by October this year.
This figure represents an increase of 5.5 million compared to 2023.
