There are cities like New York, in the United States of America (USA), where the simplest everyday tasks can be a real challenge. Conversely, there are others that are considered less stressful due to factors such as the level of security and the cost of living. And Porto is precisely in the world’s top 10 cities with the least stress.
According to the study promoted by the Remitly platform, the European continent and, in particular, the Netherlands dominate the list of the world’s least stressful destinations. Porto is the only Portuguese city in the top 10, appearing in 8th place with a rating of 2.97, 10 being the maximum stress value.

What was the study’s methodology?

According to the information published on the Remitly website, 170 cities worldwide were considered for this study, based on the availability of existing data.
Each city was then evaluated according to five key criteria:
- Average time for a 10-kilometer journey
- Cost of living
- Health care index
- Crime levels (safety)
- Air quality
The 10 least stressful cities

After a vast analysis with data available for October 2025, it was possible to come up with the following top 10 least stressful cities in the world:
- Eindhoven, Netherlands – 2.34/10
- Utrecht, Netherlands – 2.67/10
- Canberra, Australia – 2.80/10
- Tallinn, Estonia – 2.83/10
- Groningen, Netherlands – 2.84/10
- Trandheim, Norway – 2,84/10
- Bergen, Norway – 2,85/10
- Porto, Portugal – 2.97/10
- Brisbane, Australia – 2,98/10
- Rotterdam, Netherlands – 3.34.

Conversely, the Remitly study also presents the top 10 most stressful cities:
