Francisco Sá Carneiro – Porto Airport continues to grow and diversify its offer. Ryanair recently announced two new routes to Gothenburg (Sweden) and Warsaw (Poland). However, the news doesn’t stop there, as a direct daily connection to New York (USA) is on the way.
According to a statement issued by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, in 2026 Porto will have the presence of Delta Air Lines, one of the largest airlines in the world. This company “will connect the northern region [of Portugal] to New York – JFK [John F. Kennedy International Airport]“, the document reads.

However, the press release to which Porto Secreto has had access does not specify a specific date for the start of direct connections with New York. However, Jornal de Notícias (JN) reported that operations should begin on May 21 (non-stop).
In this context, Delta Air Lines is strengthening its position in the Portuguese market, as there are already daily flights from Lisbon to New York State. In addition, the JN reported that there are other “seasonal daily trips linking the capital [Lisbon] to Boston”.

A growing airport
This news is important because it positions Porto Airport as the main gateway to the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula.
However, the growth scenario is not only reflected by the future air link between Porto and New York – JFK, but also by the record traffic reached in 2024 with 15.9 million passengers (+4.8% compared to 2023).
