Greater Porto has gained yet another summer attraction for those who enjoy swimming, but in heated water. In addition to the inviting pool at Canidelo Norte Beach, the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia now boasts a new, free-access facility at Areinho River Beach, in the parish of Oliveira do Douro.
Opened on July 23, the Areinho Pool—measuring 40×50 meters and 1 meter deep —has a maximum capacity of 80 people, with a 30-minute time limit per user. This project is the first step in a broader plan to enhance this riverside area in Gaia.
Free, heated, and inclusive swimming pool
According to the same source, the Areinho Pool in Oliveira do Douro “was designed in accordance with strict universal accessibility criteria.” As such, priority is given to people with disabilities, children under two years of age, and citizens over 65 years of age.
Since its renovation as part of the “Encostas do Douro” project, Areinho River Beach has been gaining popularity and now further expands the selection of free heated pools in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, joining the Canidelo Norte Beach Pool.
