After a five-year hiatus, since it had been suspended since 2020, the historic river crossing between Cais do Ouro (Porto) and Afurada (Vila Nova de Gaia) is now officially up and running, connecting the two banks of the Douro.
The new service is the result of an investment of 160,000 euros and runs as a four-month pilot project (until October), promoted by Transportes Metropolitanos do Porto (TMP), in partnership with the Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo (APDL).
According to Expresso, which quotes the president of TMP, Marco Martins, each crossing lasts seven minutes, a much shorter time when compared to the journey by car (20 to 30 minutes) or public transport (50 minutes).
Prices & ticket purchase
As well as the speed of the new river connection between Porto and Gaia, another advantage of this means of transport is the possibility of using Andante Z2 or passes.
However, it is also possible to buy a ticket on board for €2.25. However, if you want to know more details, you can check out the official Andantewebsite.
