Pedro Pablo Pichardo’s name currently needs no introduction. After all, we’re talking about none other than the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion. This time he missed out on gold, but he won’t be leaving Paris 2024 empty-handed.
The athlete won the silver medal with a mark of 17.84 meters, beaten only by Spain’s Jordan Díaz with 17.86 meters. The podium was completed by bronze for Andy Díaz Hernández, representing Italy, with 17.64 meters.
I’m happy and I’m leaving here with a good feeling, hoping that next time it can be better. I had a little pain and unfortunately I made a mistake in the race. Despite losing the competition, I leave here with my head held high,” said Pedro Pichardo, in statements broadcast by RTP2.
With this achievement, the Portuguese delegation has now won its third medal at the 2024 Olympic Games, joining Iuri Leitão’s silver (omnium track cycling) and Patrícia Sampaio’s bronze (judo -78kg).
