A brief look at the history of Quinta da Aveleda
Before we mention the experiences you can find here, we want to go back in time. After all, it is said that this place has existed since the 19th century. XVI, when it was an estate made up of several farms belonging to different owners.
In the 18th century, Quinta da Aveleda passed into the hands of Manuel Pedro Guedes de Silva da Fonseca who, in 1870, created the company that is still owned by the Guedes family today. Five generations on, the menu includes well-known labels such as Aveleda Loureiro-Alvarinho and Casal Garcia.
However, the Guedes family has been able to adapt to the times, expanding the brand to other products such as cheeses and jams, among others.
In addition, the estate has opened its doors to wine tourism, allowing visits to its stunning gardens (and not only).
What can you visit?
The Quinta offers a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of Porto. Here, there’s plenty to see and, of course, wines to taste. Covering several hectares, the botanical garden is a real delight for those who appreciate the nature.

In this landscape worthy of a movie from “The Hobbit” saga, it’s easy to forget the pace of time. Between lakes and waterfalls, there are other points of interest, such as the Goat Tower, the Boat House and the Tea House .
Other spots besides the garden
The gardens at Quinta da Aveleda are undoubtedly one of the main drawcards, as they offer different styles and atmospheres, from the tropical to the romantic.
Even so, there are other spots that deserve (and should) be highlighted, namely the old cellar. After all, this is where the oldest wines are kept.
In addition, on the threshing floor you’ll find one of the largest and oldest granaries in Portugal, dating back to the 19th century. XVII.
Also, don’t forget to stop by the Manor House. However, you should know that it is not possible to enter this magnificent building, as it is still owned by the Guedes family. Even so, it’s worth admiring and taking lots of photos.
