Porto has just gained a new tourist attraction that promises to delight not only visitors, but also locals. STCP – Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto has announced the restoration of the 143rd centenary streetcar.
In a statement sent to Porto Secreto, STCP said that the intervention on the historic vehicle included the complete restoration of the bodywork and a mechanical overhaul. In this way, it can resume running on the city’s rails.
A brief history of the centenary streetcar
Built between 1925 and 1938, Tram 143 was one of the great symbols of STCP’s streetcar fleet.
In 2023, it was even used for Christmas-themed trips, having been decorated by the pupils of Bom Sucesso Primary School.
Now, the vehicle has recovered the features of its original model, such as the straw seats, the seven windows and the single row of seats.
Best of all, it can be rented at the Electric Car Museum for sightseeing trips along the Douro riverfront.
