Portugal and Spain experienced an atypical situation on April 28, when both countries went completely dark for several hours. The reason was a ‘general blackout’, the official causes of which have yet to be determined.
In fact, this scenario led to an increase in demand for portable battery-operated radios. According to data from price comparison website Kuantokusta, the percentage increase is overwhelming, at more than 4547%.
Radios, powerbanks and more
This type of battery-operated radio is one of the items suggested by the European Union for a possible survival kit, and powerbanks are also among the most popular items on Kuantokusta.
According to the aforementioned source, the Portuguese have wasted no time in buying essential equipment to better cope with a similar situation in the future:
- Radios (+4594%)
- Powerbanks (+1728%)
- Portable stoves (+348%).
Other equipment in demand
Other products were also in high demand, namely generators, portable batteries, flashlights and dehydrated food.
