Rain and low temperatures have dominated the national news, but it’s not all bad news, as the astronomical calendar has a nice surprise in store: the arrival of the Snow Moon on February 1 (Sunday).
The February full moon, known as the Snow Moon, owes its name to the severe cold and frozen landscapes that cover North America in white – a name given by indigenous peoples.
Practical tips

Although bad weather can be an obstacle to observing the Full Moon in all its splendor, the lunar satellite is expected to shine very brightly in the sky over Porto, especially away from light pollution.
High places such as the Serra do Pilar Monastery Viewpoint or the Vitória Viewpoint may be good options for observing the astronomical event without leaving the city, but before leaving home, check the weather conditions to avoid unnecessary risks.
Other names
According to the specialized website Star Walk, Snow Moon is not the only name given to the February Full Moon. For example, some tribes also called it the Hunger Moon, and the Celts called it the Ice Moon.
After this Sunday, February 1, the next Full Moon will shine on March 3. Until then, all we can do is wrap up warm and enjoy this free show!
