The Porto Public Transportation Company (STCP) recently launched a new service that allows passengers to find out, independently and immediately, when the next bus on its network will arrive and to track real-time schedules and updates . More specifically, it is a two-way WhatsApp channel with its customers, accessible via the number +351 226 158 158. The service is now available to all customers of Porto’s bus network.
How does it work in practice?

To use the service, passengers start a conversation with STCP via the official link and choose one of three options: specify the route, the stop, or their current location. Within seconds, they receive the estimated arrival time of the next bus—and can continue to track its progress in real time while waiting.
The idea is simple: put the information on a platform that most people already use every day. WhatsApp requires no registration, no app downloads, and no complicated menus. Checking information is as quick as sending a message to a friend.
The new channel complements the real-time information channels that STCP already provides—displays at bus stops, its website, and its app—and is part of the company’s strategy to engage passengers digitally. STCP states that it will continue to invest in modernizing its services and in solutions that make public transportation simpler and more convenient to use.
